In this episode we talked to Dr. Scot McKnight about the book he co-authored with his daughter, Laura Barringer, entitled, A Church Called Tov: Forming a Goodness Culture That Resists Abuses of Power and Promotes Healing. Our conversation is a part of our series on race, gender, and power in the local church.
Scot has been a friend of ours for almost 15 years. He’s the Julius R. Mantey Professor of New Testament at Northern Seminary and has written dozens of books on the New Testament, early Christianity, and the historical Jesus. He’s also a Canon Theologian of Matt Tebbe and Ben Sternke’s Anglican diocese Churches for the Sake of Others.
Scot blogs at Christianity Today and you can follow him on Twitter and Facebook.

So good. So understanding of those that have suffered. Such vision to recover. Wish I had heard this fifteen years ago.
Why no mention of the fact that the discounting of women’s voices that is endemic in evangelical culture is a huge contributing factor to how this was able to happen?
Probably just not enough time to say everything that needs to be said, but you’re exactly right about the discounting of women’s voices in evangelical culture, Vicki. That’s a big part of the problem.
I am so glad that Scot is adding to our awareness in this area. It is so important to engage and normalize the language and responses we can use that are healthy.
