What is mutual submission? How does it actually work? And how can it be practiced to subvert the worldly power games we keep getting sucked into in the church?
We continue our discussion of POWER in the church, and our guest is David Fitch, a pastor at Peace of Christ Church in Westmont, Illinois, and a professor at Northern Seminary in Lombard, Illinois. He lays out how mutual submission is how we inhabit the power of the kingdom of God, instead of getting sucked into the vortex of worldly power.
We talk about how mutual submission and communal discernment actually works on the ground with an actual story from David’s church. It’s a really helpful concrete example of how mutual submission can subvert the ways we get tangled up in worldly power games.
