What was clear to the original readers of Scripture is not always clear to us. Because of the cultural distance between the biblical world and our contemporary setting, we often bring modern Western biases to the text. Ten years ago Brandon O’Brien co-wrote a book on this topic that we have recommended more than any other of the years: Misreading Scripture with Western Eyes: Removing Cultural Blinders to Better Understand the Bible.Brandon joins us to talk about why it’s vital for us to get beyond our own cultural assumptions in our interconnected and globalized world and learn to read Scripture as a member of the global body of Christ.
Brandon O’Brien is the Senior Director for Content Development and Distribution at Redeemer City to City, and author of several books including Not From Around Here: What Unites us, What Divides us, and How We Can Move Forward and Misreading Scripture with Western Eyes: Removing Cultural Blinders to Better Understand the Bible.

Was listening to the part about American vs European movies as I walked to the barber… Which has the chase scene from A Good Day to Die Hard on. So true!
Many great insights in this conversation. Many thanks from Amman, Jordan.
