During the Covid-19 public health emergency, we are happy to put provisional workshop dates on our calendar, but we will not be able to confirm travel to be present in person until two weeks before the event.
We will confirm our intention to be present in person two weeks before the scheduled event, based on the following criteria:
Government mandates: We will not book travel or confirm an in-person engagement if, two weeks before the event, current government policies at any level (municipal, state, federal) prohibit travel to the destination, nor if the destination jurisdiction or my home jurisdiction would require a quarantine upon arriving or returning. We will cancel travel up until the day of departure if government policies change to prohibit travel or to require a quarantine. This policy for cancellation applies only to government mandates as opposed to recommendations.
We will confirm travel to states rated “yellow” or “green” at covidexitstrategy.org as of two weeks before the event. We will not book travel to states rated as “deep red / uncontrolled spread” at this site. If a state’s status is “red / trending poorly,” it will be a judgment call two weeks ahead of the event. If a state’s status changes to “red” or “deep red” within two weeks of our travel date, we will still travel to that destination as long as no new government mandates are imposed.
Please help us observe best public-health practices. We plan to observe all relevant guidance from public health authorities at all levels of government, for example regarding maximum gathering size, physical distance, and mask use, and we ask that my hosts make plans accordingly. We do not foresee needing to ask for any special accommodations beyond whatever is currently recommended by public health authorities.
We are eager to prepare an alternative virtual presentation option for all upcoming events.
We believe the best virtual presentations are significantly different from what would have been presented in person. Shorter and more interactive / conversational presentations work better than longer “talks,” and also create opportunities for new kinds of interaction. Please let us know the best way for us to work together to prepare the best possible virtual experience for your community should we not be able to be together in person.
Should we cancel an in-person appearance because of the above protocols, and should our hosts prefer a virtual option for any reason at any time, our time will be billed at $400 for the first hour and $200 for each consecutive hour.
