We help churches discover and lead a discipleship process that works
You’re a pastor. A leader in the church. You’re called to make disciples who make disciples. You’re not looking to climb a career ladder or punch a clock or polish an institution. You’re looking to lead people into life. Flourishing. Real breakthrough and transformation.
This is why you got into ministry in the first place. You want to see people’s lives transformed by Jesus, becoming a multiplying movement of disciples that can fully participate in God’s mission.
Easy to get sidetracked
Yet somewhere along the way we get stuck. We find ourselves managing an institution instead of leading a movement. We find ourselves leading more like business leaders dealing with buildings, boards and budgets.
It seems most leaders are so stuck managing the day to day activity of their ministry that they don’t have any time to do the kinds of things that would lead to lasting, sustainable transforation for their communities and organizations.
Often we look for a quick fix. We apply the principles that the celebrity pastor told us to at the last conference or in his last book. We try new programs and curriculums, we start a new sermon series, we hire a new staff member.
But somewhere in the midst of all of this activity we settle for surface-level change when God is calling us to deep transformation.
Getting to real transformation
Gravity Leadership has been working with churches for years, bringing real, deep, and lasting transformation to church leaders and organizations through our coaching and consulting.
We can help you discover the insights to open your culture to transformation, and then give you the tools and competencies to actually do it.
Here’s how our consulting is different:
We shape culture, not just change programs
Most Christian leaders realize that any organization can make small incremental changes, but the real challenge is doing the hard work of changing your culture.
Sometimes the container (your culture) can’t hold the transformation you need and God wants for you. So we help you do the hard work of discovering if your culture can hold the transformation you want.
We help you notice, not tell you what to do
We aren’t the experts who give you the answers, we are guides who help you name your challenges, dream together, and develop a plan.
We won’t give you a list of cosmetic changes to make in your church (“Change the sign!” etc). Instead, we help you listen to what God is doing in your context, finding where your current battles exist, and where there are opportunities for growth.
Then we want to help you see tomorrow today! We want to help you dream again and reimagine what your ministry could look like in the future. It’s not just strategic planning, it’s discernment: learning to notice how God is moving and speaking in your culture and developing a plan to do the hard work of obedience.
We dive deep to core causes, not focus on shallow symptoms
We guide your team through a process that helps you hear from God concerning his unique call and vision for your ministry. We don’t operate from a fixed template or give canned answers. We help you diagnose and dream for your context.
This means our process is not for the faint of heart! It takes real vulnerability, real honesty, a genuine desire for transformation, and the guts to go through the hard part.
Our consulting process
1. Awareness / Discerning
We start by detecting what you’re noticing, and digging below the surface to find out what’s really going on. We ask lots of questions and lead your team through a series of exercises with the goal of accurately diagnosing, and honestly naming your specific challenges.
We call this process “getting to the balcony.” We help you step back from the day-to-day of ministry leadership and see a bigger picture.
Most importantly, we trust that as we do this, we are doing more than “finding problems.” We’re actually discovering where God is at work in your culture.
2. Alignment / Dreaming
After the Awareness phase, we move towards Alignment. We help you name the unique purpose for which God has called your church, and then move toward aligning your reality with that dream.
We dive deep to look at the challenges you face in seeking transformation. We name competing values, we discern cultural barriers to breakthrough and help you get a clear picture of the future God dreams of for your church.
3. Action / Doing
Finally, we help you identify measurable, manageable, and meaningful Action you can take that will move you toward God’s dream for your church. Action that will open up space for God to do in your church what only he can do.
We don’t just give you a plan, either. We help you walk out the changes you identify through regular follow-up coaching calls. Instead of quick fixes, we help you establish repeatable, reproducible practices that create the right environment for transformation.
