Our current cultural earthquake

Life and mission is already hard enough for those who want to take their faith seriously and live as disciples of Jesus. But after the cultural shock waves of the past few years, it's even more difficult.

Communities and churches are fracturing under the influence of a resurgent Christian nationalism and unwillingness to face the legacy and lingering effects of racism and colonialism.

Many people, feeling disoriented and betrayed, find themselves questioning and needing to deconstruct the faith they inherited.

Trying to follow Jesus and live faithfully in the midst of this cultural earthquake feels increasingly impossible for many. Many Christians are feeling alienated from the communities that nurtured them in faith as they wrestle with how to live from a place of honesty and integrity.

What if you didn't need to do it alone?

But what if you didn’t have to do it alone? What if there were other people wrestling with these same issues, wanting to learn how to follow Jesus and live with integrity?

Since 2015, through training, coaching, discipling, writing, podcasting, gatherings, and Zoom calls, Gravity has been bringing people together for honest, meaningful, and generative conversations where we all learn together in real time how to take love seriously as the center of our life and mission.

So much unexpected wisdom has come out of our community in these kinds of conversations, so we’ve been wanting to find more ways for people in the Gravity orbit to connect with each other, share with each other, learn from each other, and invest in each other.

Join us in the Gravity Commons

So we created the Gravity Commons to give us a place to gather and learn together. And we want you to be part of it. The Gravity Commons offers:

  • Carol Vanderstoep, retired teacher
In my advocacy work, I became more settled in knowing that my identity, security and belonging is in Christ and not what other people say or what I do or what I have. my view of God has changed and it has been so life-giving for me!

  • Michael Dean, teacher and pastor
Gravity helped me learn a better way to see and understand the work of God in my life, and their discipleship process concretely puts the focus on how God is at work in the lives of everyone involved and not merely on learning more facts about God.

  • Dan Hauser, manager
Gravity taught me a way to curiously explore my inner world and how my emotions are tied to what God is doing in and through me.

  • Ivy Linger, home educator and art teacher
Gravity has given me a different way of thinking about discipleship and being the Church, and through the regular connection with people outside of my normal contexts, I've been able to learn from others with different backgrounds and convictions.

How much time will this take?

It depends on what elements you participate in, and how often. The monthly Live Podcast Q&A and Practitioner Learning Lab are 75 minutes each, Member Meetups are typically 45-90 minutes each, and you can dip into the Discussion Forum at your convenience.

When will the meetings be scheduled?

1) Gravity Commons LIVE

Your membership in the Gravity Commons includes access to a Gravity Commons LIVE session each month, a live podcast recording with Q&A afterward exclusively for Commons members.

Every month we'll convene a live conversation for the Gravity Leadership Podcast on an important topic with guests we find helpful, provocative, insightful, or fascinating.

During the podcast recording, you'll be able to interact with the hosts, guests, and other Gravity Commons members via chat during the podcast recording, and afterward we will host a live Q&A with our guests where you can ask questions and interact with our guests.

These conversations will form the basis for our Practitioner Learning Lab later in the month.

2) Practitioner Learning Lab

Your membership in the Gravity Commons includes access to our Practitioner Learning Lab each month.

Each month we'll host a live Practitioner Learning Lab via Zoom to help us get practical about “how to actually do this stuff” together.

Often we'll be taking the content from a Gravity Commons LIVE conversation and seeking to actualize it into concrete practices you can implement in your context. We will offer a practice or habit for consideration and see where the discussion takes us.

These kinds of environments are where the wisdom of our community comes out!

3) Member Meetups

Your membership in the Gravity Commons includes access to all Member Meetups each month.

Member Meetups are live check-ins and practice sessions hosted by Gravity coaches where Commons members can connect with, encourage, and learn from each other.

Some Member Meetups are spaces to share stories and process Kairoses. Others are "practice sessions" where Commons members can hone their listening and discernment skills.

Member Meetups will continue to evolve as the Commons grows, so there are probably Meetups we haven't thought of yet!

4) Discussion Board

Your membership in the Gravity Commons includes access to our online Discussion Board.

The Discussion Board is a confidential, safe place for leaders to share questions and challenges about life and ministry, and receive support, encouragement, and guidance from other Commons members and Gravity coaches.

Commons members can use the Discussion Board to ask all kinds of questions, find others in their geographical area, connect with others with similar interests, and create new Member Meetup opportunities.
